Scientific background: | FGF 10, Fibroblast growth factor 10, is a protein that in humans is encoded by the FGF10 gene. The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the fibroblast growth factor (FGF) family. FGF 10 contains 3 exons and spans at least 52.7 kb. By radioactive in situ hybridization, the FGF 10 gene is mapped to 5p13-p12. This protein exhibits mitogenic activity for keratinizing epidermal cells, but essentially no activity for fibroblasts. FGF 10 translocated into urothelial cell nuclei and initiated a signaling cascade that began with the heparin-dependent tyrosine phosphorylation of surface transmembrane receptors. |
