Phrixotoxin-3 is a native peptidyl toxin isolated from the venom of the tarantula Phrixotrichus auratus This toxin is a highly specific and potent blocker of voltage-gated Na⁺channels, especially the neuronal channel Na_v1.2, with properties similar to those of typical gating-modifier toxins by causing a depolarizing shift in gating kinetics and by blocking the inward component of the sodium current.

Injection of phrixotoxin-3 to mice causes neurotoxicity symptoms that are expressed by general ataxia, lack of response to stimuli, and semiparalysis.
