beta-Pompilidotoxin. (beta-PMTX). Enhancer of Nav Currents (Slows inactivation). beta-PMTX was originally isolated from Anoplius samariensis and Batozonellus maclifrons wasps. This is a synthetic version of the peptide.
beta-PMTX is a homologous peptide to alpha-PMTX (position 12 is Arginine instead of Lysine). beta-PMTX induces repetitive action potentials and facilitates both excitatory and inhibitory synaptic transmission. Recently it was found that this toxin slows the Na+-channel inactivation, without changing the peak current-voltage relationship or the activation time course of the TTX-sensitive Na+ currents in the neuromuscular synapse of the lobster walking leg and in the rat trigeminal ganglion neurons. beta-PMTX is five times more potent than alpha-PMTX.
