Rat serum amyloid P (SAP) is an acute phase protein that circulates as a ~230 kDa glycoprotein. It is composed of 10 identical subunits arranged as two cyclic pentameric discs and contains ~10% carbohydrate. Measurement of the concentration of SAP is indicative of the extent and severity of an inflammatory stimulus and can be used to assess various modalities of treatment.
