Protein kinase C eta type (PKC eta) is a calcium-independent,Porcinehospholipid-dependent, serine- and threonine-specific enzyme. PKC eta is activated by diacylglycerol which in turn phosphorylates a range of cellular proteins. PKC eta also serves as the receptor for phorbol esters, a class of tumor promoters. Defects in PRKCH may be a cause of susceptibility to ischemic stroke (ISCHSTR), also known as cerebrovascular accident or cerebral infarction.
