Myelopero, Xenopus/Amphibian,idase (MPO) plays a role in the host defense system of polymorphonuclear leukocytes. Myelopero, Xenopus/Amphibian,idase is responsible for microbicidal activity against a wide range of organisms. In the stimulated PMN,Mouse, yelopero, Xenopus/Amphibian,idase catalyzes the production of hypohalous acids,Porcinerimarily hypochlorous acid, and other to, Xenopus/Amphibian,ic intermediates that greatly enhance PMN microbicidal activity. Defects in myelopero, Xenopus/Amphibian,idase are the cause of myelopero, Xenopus/Amphibian,idase deficiency (MPD), an autosomal recessive defect that results in disseminated candidiasis.
