Interleukin 4 (IL-4) is a cytokine involved in B-cell activation processes. IL-4 induces the e, Xenopus/Amphibian,pression of class II MHC molecules on resting B-cells. IL-4 also enhances both secretion and cell surface e, Xenopus/Amphibian,pression of IgE and IgG1, and regulates the e, Xenopus/Amphibian,pression of the low-affinity Fc receptor for IgE (CD23) on both lymphocytes and monocytes. Genetic variations in the IL-4 gene have been implicated in the cause of ischemic stroke.
