Target: GJA5 belongs to the connexin family, alpha-type subfamily. It is an integral membrane protein that forms transmembrane channels, and may function in small molecule transport, muscle contraction and cell-cell communication. Alternative splicing occurs at this locus and two transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified.
