Galectin-3 is a member of the Galectin family that recognizes specific oligosaccharide structures on glycoproteins and glycolipids. Galectin-3 plays an important role in carcinoma development, aggressiveness and metastasis. Galectin-3 is a galactose-specific lectin which binds IgE and also stimulates endothelial cell migration via interaction with alpha-3/beta-1 integrin. Galectin-3 is mainly e, Xenopus/Amphibian,oressed in colonic epithelium and activated macrophages. Galectin-3 may become a valuable diagnostic marker and target of malignancy treatment.
