CD103, also known as Integrin alphaE or integrin alphaIEL, is a single pass transmembrane protein composed by two chains, heavy and light, linked by a disulfide bond. It is expressed in the cell surface as an alphaE/beta7 heterodimer. CD103 mediates adhesion of intraepithelial T cells (IEL) to the epithelium. CD103 is expressed by IEL, effector and memory Tregs, and dendritic cells and their immediate precursors. E-cadherin is the ligand for CD103.
