Fatty acid binding proteins are a family of small, highly conserved, cytoplasmic proteins (14-15kDa) that bind long chain fatty acids, their CoA derivatives, billiruben, organic anions and other small hydrophobic molecules. L-FABP (or FABP-1) is found predominantly in liver and is believed to be involved in the regulation of lipid transport and metabolism and is required for cholesterol synthesis and metabolism. RANDOX recombinant L-FABP comprises a 127 amino acid fragment (1-127) corresponding to the human liver FABP protein and is expressed in E. coli with an amino-terminal hexahistidine tag.
