Gap junction beta-2 protein (conne, Xenopus/Amphibian,in-26) is a transmembrane channel that, together with other conne, Xenopus/Amphibian,ins, forms a gap junction. Gap junctions allow low MW materials to flow from one cell to a neighboring cell. Defects in conne, Xenopus/Amphibian,in-26 are the cause of deafness autosomal recessive type 1A (DFNB1A). DFNB1A is a form of sensorineural hearing loss. Sensorineural deafness results from damage to the neural receptors of the inner ear, the nerve pathways to the brain, or the area of the brain that receives sound information.
